Developing as a writer: PhD researchers’ evolving perspectives within a writing program

Writing is central to PhD work, though often a source of challenge, given the dissertation basis for award degree. Universities may offer writing workshops, but these frequently take remedial, skills-based approach: as something fix rather than developmental life-learning process gaining confidence and fluency writer. In this study, we report design an eight-month program premised on approach longitudinal assessment participants’ journeys. Participants incorporated many elements approach, including goal setting review, metacognitive talk about their writing, valuing others’ perspectives, viewing challenges shared. Most, not all, developed broader understanding learning write exploratory process. Finally, data collection analysis structure proved productive, just inquiry, also formatively during – both participants facilitators.
